Thematix was founded in 2011 to bring together the best minds in semantic technologies, business and information architecture, and traditional software engineering, to uniquely address practical problems in product development and marketing.

We design marketing solutions using the tools of strategic planning, business process analysis, software engineering and knowledge representation to increase business efficiency, marketing agility and scalability, reduce costs and facilitate adaptive application development. This approach, melding business acumen and semantic technology expertise, is not easily replicated.  It is one requiring the application of high-skill, one-on-one expertise appropriate to the bourgeoning field of applied semantics.   We understand deeply both the general business imperatives and the specific, technical solutions.  We are generalists and we are specialists, helping you navigate the often obscure mechanisms  of semantic technology and then helping implement the solution we have helped you identify.

Two Thematix principals are from Sandpiper Software, Inc., founded in late 1995 to address problems in semantic interoperability, with an initial DARPA research program to facilitate distributed interchange of engineering design knowledge for signal processor applications and have continued to perform research and development involving semantic technologies since that time.

Two of the Thematix principals are entrepreneurs and pioneers in e-commerce founded US Interactive (a NASDAQ company), helped create Prodigy (IBM, CBS, Sears) and in subsequent ventures created new products in online travel booking (Portaga), internet video (BNMP) and internet advertising standards (Ad-ID). 

Thematix is an active participant in the standards community, including W3C (Semantic Web), the Open Travel Alliance (XML web services / ontology standards for travel services), the Object Management Group (Ontology, Analysis & Design, and Business Architecture), and ISO (Metadata).  

Thematix has, in its short lifespan, worked with large companies in the travel, financial services, aerospace and electronics industries to help deliver pragmatic approaches to marketing opportunities.
